As you know G&G Contributor and friend Robert Dunn had a fire at his property a couple of weeks ago that destroyed his firearms, gunsmithing tools, reloading equipment, ammo, and much more. An event that would test the mettle of any of us. The GoFundMe account set up to help Robert has been very successful and I would like to thank all of you who made such generous contributions. The campaign is still active, so CLICK HERE if you would still like to help a fellow gun enthusiast get back on his feet after such a devastating loss.

Robert has written this sincere letter of appreciation. I know it comes from his heart.

Hello Everybody,

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who took the time to leave such wonderful and encouraging comments. I am absolutely blown away by the amount of money that was raised to help me get back to some state of normalcy. The kindness and generosity that has been shown to me will be paid forward and I will never forget this experience.

I have found and pulled most of my scorched firearms out of the rubble and that was sure depressing. I will be following up with some photos that I have taken and I will share some of the gunsmithing projects and information that I learn along my path of restoration and recovery. I am not optimistic that anything is shootable again, but I know that my first project is going to be carving a new stock for an old arquebus that my Dad once restored many years ago. I have already been able to purchase some basic gunsmithing tools thanks to all of your donations.

My Mom and brother, who live in Georgia, have offered to pay my way back to the East Coast so that I can visit my Mom. She will be celebrating her 94thbirthday! My brother has also offered to give me a bunch of my Dad’s hand tools that he still has from his old workshop!

Yes, this has been a devastating experience, but there are a lot of positive things that have come out of it as well. I wish I had better words than just a thank you, but my thanks come from my heart!

Sincerely,

Robert

  1. There are no words that can actually express my thanks and gratitude to all of the folks that have taken the time to write such kind words, let alone donate their hard earned money. You have all restored my faith in mankind. Thank you all so very much, this means so much to me, you just have no idea!!!

  2. Hey Robert, remember “This too shall pass”. It is the one statement that is true on all occasions. Steve Adams

    • Thank you Steve. I know it will pass. I’m trying to be creative with the aftermath. I am planning on compiling all of my article into a book. I think this would be a good tribute to all of the love and work that I put into my guns.

  3. My prayers and thoughts are with you and yours. May Almighty God bless and keep you always. At the moment I am unable to help financially but know that I do care. Signed (Whiskers) old Cowboy Action name.

  4. Hi Bob. I can’t begin to tell you how sorry I am about your loss. I to am very attached to to every one of my guns.(only guys like us know what I’m talking about) I will be getting some funds in the middle of the month,so I will see how much I can donate. I just had major back surgery, and I’m slowly getting back on my feet. I know people keep saying that it could have been worse but really? Well I apologize for dragging this out but I just wanted to let you know that you can count me in.stay safe and I will do what I can as soon as I can.Take care Rick

    • Thanks Rick, sorry to hear about your back. I know the back is a huge deal and that the pain is sometimes unimaginable. I wish you a safe and fast recovery! Though I only had two slipped discs, I basically laid on the floor for three months alone in a new house. Honestly, I would much rather lose all of my stuff to a fire than go through another back episode. Thanks again, Rick!

  5. This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. Lamentations 3:21-24.

Wise words from a man who also watched everything he knew be totally consumed. It has been solace and strength for me and my family through life’s journey. Glad you and your’s are safe. God bless and keep.
