In this video lesson, Fred Zeglin discusses the use and types of taps and dies used when working on barrels. This is an operation that must be done correctly–threads that are damaged of not straight relative to the axis of the barrel can result in accuracy issues as well as compromise the strength of the screwed joint.

  1. cutting oil is necessary when cutting new threads…He is just chasing here… the slot on the die is used to achieve a good smooth and tight fit in the receiver and is adjusted using the 3 set screws in the handle not mentioned in the vidio
