So Long, Pardners! It’s Been Fun Knowing You.

from Gary Howes
Guns and Gunsmiths Editor
Since Inception in 2013

Well friends, I have finally decided to hang up my spurs, lock the doors and retire from business. I was asked by AGI President Gene Kelly to start this blog way back in June of 2013 and it has exceeded my expectations. Along the way I have made many friends, although I have actually met few of them in person. That’s the internet for you! But now it’s time for me to saddle up my horse and ride into the sunset.

What does this mean for Guns and Gunsmiths?

To be honest, I just don’t know–that is a decision that the folks at AGI will have to make. If you want to see it stick around I suggest you get in contact with them and let them know how much you enjoy this blog.

What About GunsmithUSA.com?

GunsmithUSA.com, the Free Online Directory for Gunsmiths will continue on. It is my own website and has no affiliation with AGI or GCA. I will still accept listings for gunsmiths that want to be included, so if you haven’t done so yet, please do. However I will no longer be offering website design or other graphics services.

Will you ever hear from me again?

Only if you want to. I do have some plans for an exciting new firearms-related website of my own that I know you will all be interested in. However, for me to email you about it when the time is right, I need your permission as I will no longer have any access to the Guns and Gunsmiths mailing list.

So, if you would like to be added to my own mailing list and be among the first to hear of my plans, CLICK HERE to be added to that list. Then keep an eye out in the near future for the news I want to share with you.

Cheerio friends and colleagues. Believe me, it has been an absolute pleasure being your editor, tech support guru, friend, administrator, mechanic and chief bottle washer.

Your friend,
Gary Howes

  1. Gary, I have enjoyed Guns and Gunsmiths since it began. You have done a great job with it. Having retired from my “day” job just this year, I know how it feels to finally “pull the trigger.” Best wishes and a great retirement for you!

  2. Good day Gary,

I see the day has come. I’ve followed G&G for over four years (almost since it’s inception) and am going to miss having this blog. The blog is a plethora of intel and good people. Most of all I will miss your contributions and good character here Gary.

Lot’s of good memories here for me I will always remember. I remember my early days in reading G&G and remember emailing you Gary regarding how intimidated I was to post a question or comment. Your reply to me regarding it was humorous and encouraging, I will always remember.

Gary Howes: you are the gentleman who encouraged me into becoming a proud part-time writer for G&G. I’ve never written an article ever before that and it is Gary who’s brought me into this “field”. From there I went on to also becoming a proud, occasional writer for the GCA’s GunTech Magazine. I once read a quote that holds so true for my experiences and growth during my tenure of opportunity with Guns and Gunsmiths, AGI and GCA:

    To Learn : Read
    To Know : Write
    To Master: Teach

Through the years during G&G we have become friends. In that time I was fortunate enough to speak to you once (unfortunately under sad circumstance) and you were so kind to give me the time to help sort things out for myself. Thank-you very much again for that. Thanks so much for your encouragement, good advice, support, friendship and everything else above and beyond all those good things.

Many, many thank-you’s to all the Guns and Gunsmiths contributors (authors and all) that have provided such awesome information and that have taken the time to answer questions of mine. It means a lot to me being a hobbyist Gunsmith in Canada.

Last but not least I’d like to thank all of those folks who have taken the time to read my articles. I thank “ya’ll” for posting such kind, encouraging comments to them. It means a lot to me. Thanks to everyone for openly welcoming a Canadian firearms enthusiast into the American world of Guns and Gunsmithing.

Best wishes to you all in the Guns and Gunsmiths family.
Best wishes to you Gary during your retirement from this business. The end of G&G brings a new beginning awaiting you.

Farewell everyone! It has been my privilege here.
Till next time, See you at the next Check-Point!
    Cheers!

    Dana in Canada
