Product Review—AR-15 Rail Alignment Tool

by Jack Landis

Installing a free-floating front rail on an AR is a common upgrade, especially for this who want to hang extra optics, flashlights, or other doo-dads on their guns. But you need to make sure that the rails are perfectly aligned, especially if you are mounting optics.

In this product review Jack Landis looks at one tool from Brownells that can help make this job much easier. Handy to have for your own guns, and certainly a good tool to have for the professional gunsmith.

  1. Good video. I generally use any pic. base that will span the two adjoining rails and then tighten it down to align the rails providing they are of the same height.
Question: Have you ever done a segment on properly mounting and aligning a gas block on an AR15?

    • I’m glad you enjoyed the video, as you suggest there are a number of ways to get this job done.

As for your AR15 question, we have not done that here on G&G but I suggest you purchase the AR-15 Armorers Course from AGI. Among other things it contains a complete disassembly/reassembly that covers the correct installation of the gas block.
