While home one Sunday during supper I heard shotgun shots nearby. Shortly after the last shot there was a knock on my door. To my surprise I saw my neighbor with a shotgun leaning at his side. He said the gun needs my gunsmithing services. The action was open so at a glance I was able to see the chamber unloaded. In the begining: Cleaning my guns…

When I first began shooting guns I was living in northern Alberta, Canada. Winters are long and cold with me often shooting in such conditions. With shooting comes cleaning.

The first gun cleaning product I used was Outer’s solvent. Lubrication was done with Outer’s gun oil. Several times I had to clean my guns in winter when it was too cold to open windows. There was the danger of freezing hot water heating pipes should I have the window open too long, or even worse, forgetting to close them. … but the guns had to be cleaned. Continue reading

“What’s that rifle?” – a Canadian Custom

“What’s that??”

That’s the question I hear so many ask me when at the shooting range. I smile (and sometimes chuckle) and answer them as my shooting partner has to some that have asked him (while I was busy shooting): ” inside all of this is a Remington 700 in .308 caliber”.
